Tru Identity selected by CBP to Modernize Customs Entries with Responsible AI

WASHINGTON D.C.—U.S. Customs and Border Protection selected Tru Identity, the platform for advanced global trade, in September 2025 to participate in its Trade Solutions Pilot technical demonstration, which is a program for companies to demonstrate their ability to streamline how importers and customs brokers collaborate and reduce bottlenecks that occur at the time of entry.

This partnership enables U.S. Customs and Border Protection to evaluate the merits of next-generation private sector technology from innovative companies that drive real efficiency gains. In the age of artificial intelligence, CBP is testing new technology to further advance their objectives and deliver meaningful benefits to the U.S. economy. According to CBP’s solicitation, these solutions will “increase the thoroughness and/or reduce the time needed overall to conduct import or entity reviews, segment risk, and reduce CBP personnel manpower and resource commitments.”

CBP selected Tru Identity to demonstrate two technologies: Entry Building and Product Audit. The outputs of these privately developed technologies will be transmitted to CBP, allowing the agency to collect and validate data earlier in the supply chain. Additionally, these technologies translate complex regulations into plain-English guidance and workflows that enable more accurate, timely entries. This allows customs brokers to demonstrate responsible supervision and control over their operations while leveraging the latest technology to support their importers.

“Tru is proud to be rolling out this frontier solution that delivers tangible outcomes in such a fast-moving regulatory environment,” said Tru CEO and Co-Founder, Hugo Pakula. “Stronger scrutiny and regulations mean that success at customs demands better business processes. When operating in Tru’s ecosystem, importers and customs brokers are much more easily able to conduct their business without the overhead of compliance.”

Through this partnership, CBP gains insights into the advanced screening tools that Tru's commercial users rely on, which capture product information that isn’t transmitted ona typical entry filing. Importers using Tru Identity can scale U.S. imports with greater certainty while creating a clear audit trail that demonstrates responsible supervision to CBP. This is the core concept of Tru's Compliance Engine, which validates shipment data against CBP requirements in seconds, flags errors before an entry is ever filed.

"Capturing data beyond what appears in an entry creates a clearer view of each product," said Tru Co-Founder Henry Carey. "Producing an accurate filing today requires more product information than it ever has, and most systems outside of Tru weren't built to capture, store, or understand this level of detail."

This new way of exchanging product information creates meaningful cost savings for U.S. importers and taxpayers, and when combined with the Tru Compliance Engine, further bolsters U.S. national security by providing a clear, auditable, and transparent view of trade flows. Leading customs brokerages are already benefiting from Entry Building and the Tru Compliance Engine, and importers are seeing the benefits first-hand today.
